The Goatville Story

Goatville earned its distinctive name in the 19th century when residents commonly kept goats in their yards. Initially a working-class neighborhood, it housed immigrants who labored in New Haven’s factories and became one of the city’s most distinctive enclaves.

Bordered by State Street, the imposing East Rock formation, and Orange Street, Goatville’s character is defined by its architectural diversity. Historic photos reveal how the neighborhood evolved from rural homesteads to a vibrant community with local businesses like Archie Moore’s, neighborhood ice cream trucks, and community baseball games that brought residents together.

Landmark buildings, such as the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (now transformed into modern establishments), showcase Goatville’s remarkable continuity through changing times. The iconic East Rock vista has been a constant backdrop to neighborhood life, offering a dramatic natural landmark above the residential streets.

Our clothing line celebrates this rich tapestry of community history, drawing inspiration from Goatville’s resilient spirit and distinctive New England character. Each piece in our collection honors this historic neighborhood while embracing contemporary style and comfort.
